My Birthday Present to Me

For my birthday, I wanted to buy a dog. I even had a little puppy all picked out and was right on the verge of convincing Tiger that another kid in the family was a good idea... even though it would cost him $600 and would poop in the yard several times a day... when I realized that even if he said yes, he would resent my beloved birthday present every day for the next 12-15 years. So today, when I finally admitted to myself that my new puppy, Hero (that's what I was going to name her) would have to wait a few years, I decided that I was still entitled to the $600 present and started shopping. It's OK because we just got our economic stimulus check yesterday which is like found money, right? So, I completed round one of my birthday shopping spree today after placing and order with my Park Lane Jewelry Representative, Sherry. I had told her that I was going to order something a month ago and she had probably already given up on me when I called her this morning. After memorizing the catalog and finding about $1000 worth of stuff that I need right now, I finally settled on 4 necklaces and a pair of earrings. I consulted with a friend of mine, with drastically different taste and remarked on how those beautiful petite pieces that she loves would feel absolutely ridiculous on me and my taste was more similar to an Amazon Princess... I'm a Jungle Print, without actual Jungle Prints. I'm really happy with the pieces that I settled on and can't wait for them to arrive. For Round 2 of my shopping spree, I'll get my hair done on Friday and I'll finish off the 3rd round with some new clothes. I've been disciplining myself for a year and I think all that bottled up shopping energy is about to explode.

My Jewelry fetish started with some pieces that I bought a while ago and never got around to wearing. Last night, at the Pinewood Derby, of all places, I wore the necklace and earring set that Jacob found in a pile of junk on my dresser and got one compliment after another. I know that I've lost some weight... 40 lbs, actually, and people were noticing, but I think it was the jewelry more than anything else. I was surprised that people I've known all year were suddenly interested in how I look... and liked it! I was approached by nearly a dozen different people in one night. I thought I'd like to stay at that Pinewood Derby forever! I'm feeling really good about myself right now.

By the way, it was Andrew and Tiger's first Derby and they had fun. Tiger spent most of the night closely inspecting the winning cars so that he'll know how to make his car faster for next year (I realize I said "his car" and not "Andrew's car" anyone who's had a son and a husband participate in a Derby understands). Annah won the grass hair contest at the meeting. Last month, at pack meeting, the kids made little grass head Chia Pets out of a stocking, dirt, and grass seeds and were supposed to take them to the Derby last night to be judged. Annah won the "Most in Need of a Hair Cut" award, her little guy did have some long wild hair! She was feeling pretty proud of herself for being the only winning member of the family last night... although I definitely felt like a winner by the time we got home.

Yesterday, we participated in the SLC March for Babies. It was really a lot of fun. We walked twice around Wheeler farm and loved picking up the free snacks and drinks. I guess we didn't need 3 bottles of water and 2 Powerades, each, for a 3 mile walk around the park, but it certainly makes you feel special to be taken care of at each hydration table. We came back with more granola bars and fruit snacks than we could eat in a day.
We've all been super busy, these days. Andrew, Annah, and Jacob just started Karate, which they LOVE. It is so cute watching them in class. Annah, it turns out is a little firecracker, definately a natural in the martial arts. Andrew has made lots of friends and comes home after every class showing us his moves. His memory is remarkable! Jacob, of course, is adorable, strong, persistant, and just a tad clumsy. :) He's the youngest in his class.
The kids are also keeping me busy with soccer, dance, preschool, and cub scouts.
Tiger is busy most nights with Elder's Quorum meetings and I'm serving as the Beehive Advisor. I love the Young Women's organization so much more than I expected. I feel like they're making me young again!
I am really enjoying my wickless candle business! www.scentsy.com/scentsymenow. Even though one warmer is enough to fill my house with amazingly beautiful scent, I've put a warmer in practically every room. Tiger loved the Brownstone for the Family Room, I put a Treasure Chest in the Kitchen, Satin Navy is perfect in the kids SpongeBob bathroom, and a beautiful golden Terra Cotta in our Master Bathroom. I can't talk about it enough. I love it that much! I have a big Spring Party next week, at my house. I know I'm crazy having these over the top parties all the time, but I think I enjoy the parties more than the money. I've lived here for over a year and I'm finally getting to know all of my neighbors. It's been fun! Even if I just broke even, I think I'd keep going just because of the friends I'm making.
Well, it's getting late. Tomorrow is another big day! Let's stay in touch!

Today is the Grand Opening of our website, TheWangDyansty.com. It will always be a work in progress, as is our family, which it represents. I’ve always wanted to do something like this, and I hope you can all feel more connected to us out here in Utah by checking in with often.
Yesterday, Jacob had his first Big Kid Birthday Party. The theme, of course, was Lightning McQueen, as is the theme for his life. It was a lot of fun… for him and his friends, Tiger on the other hand, was a little overwhelmed by the mess and the unfailing stream of kid energy that lasted through the night and into this morning. And guess what? We’ll do it all over again next week when Annah has her first Chinese New Year Party. The following week, is the family Chinese New Year Party, complete with Dinner, Karaoke, and about 50 guests, and finally, Andrew will have his New Year Party with all of his friends and classmates. We’ll either have a lot of fun in February or it’s going to be a long, long month. We’ll see.
Tiger’s birthday is coming up. It’s confusing, I know. Every year his birthday is on a different day because we celebrate it on the Chinese Calendar, 8 days after the New Year. This year, his birthday falls on Valentine’s Day. I’m thinking of sending him some kind of embarrassing V’Day gift to his office, since he’s working that day. Sometimes I think too much embarrassing attention from his co-workers is more fun than a big expensive gift. I wonder if he thinks so, too. We’ll see.
I’ve started working as a Scentsy Consultant in my free time, which you all know I have tons of, in between cleaning up after 4 kids and a husband and driving them to all of their activities. I figured it was time for me to have my own activities to drive to. I’m enjoying being able to socialize with adults and I really love the Scentsy products. Check out my website www.scentsy.com/scentsymenow and you’ll get a taste of what I’m talking about. You really have to try it, though. It’s the miracle solution for candle lovers who recognize how dangerous candles are. They heat wax bars (with amazing scents) with a 25-watt light bulb, so it’s perfectly safe around, children, pets, or any place where flames are inappropriate. Actually, Scentsy is way better than any candle I’ve ever used, and I’ve used a lot of them.
Anyway, I’ve been sitting here with Andrew, Annah, and Jacob for the last 20 minutes or so, and just realized that I haven’t seen Naomi for a while. I’m going to go find her and I’ll check in again later.
See you!Miriam
